Pregnancy session in Menton with several settings: old town, staircases and seaside.

Menton is one of my favorite cities for a pregnancy shoot, precisely because it allows you to create very different images without losing the elegance and coherence of the session. In just a few steps, you go from the colorful streets of the old town to the graphic staircases, then to the port, the beach and the seaside. That's what makes the sessions here so rich and lively.

This session is a very good example. There was something complete and fluid about it, almost like a stroll through the many faces of Menton. First there was the warmth of the alleyways and facades, then the highly visual architecture of the staircases, and finally the sea air, the rocks, the beach and that softer light at the end of the day. The result is naturally more varied than a session done in a single setting, while retaining that very Menton unity I love so much.

It's also the type of session that shows why I often recommend setting aside 1h30 or 2h when you really want to enjoy the city. An hour may be enough for a single corner or for a simpler mini-session. But as soon as you want to take in different atmospheres, walk quietly, take time to breathe, vary the images and keep something natural, it's much more pleasant to plan more.

Why Menton is ideal for a varied pregnancy session

What I love about Menton is that the town has depth, color, light and a real personality. It's not just a place for “waterside” photos. You can create a much richer gallery, with images that are sometimes very soft, sometimes more graphic, sometimes more spontaneous, without leaving the Mediterranean universe that makes the place so charming.

The old town is immediately warm and inviting. Pastel facades, narrow streets, small perspectives, shutters and passageways all create a lively, photogenic setting. The staircases, on the other hand, add a stronger visual dimension. They structure the image, add rhythm, and make for photos that are a little more fashionable, a little more editorial, yet still natural.

Then, when you reach the port or the beach, the atmosphere changes. The space opens up, the light becomes softer, the gaze breathes differently. You find the sea, the movement, the reflections, the rocks, sometimes the wind in your hair, and that very special feeling of being on the Côte d'Azur without needing to add anything.

The start of a session in the old town of Menton

I often like to start a session like this in the old town. It's a great way to ease into the story, without immediately finding yourself in a very open space. The alleyways are reassuring, enveloping, full of color, and they allow you to create very charming images right away.

On this session, the choice of orange dress worked particularly well with the warm walls and tones of the old town. It was a very good idea, because the outfit wasn't just pretty, it really interacted with the setting. The images immediately had depth, warmth and presence.

It's also in this part of Menton that I like to capture tender gestures, glances and moments of complicity in a more intimate setting. The photos here are often more enveloping, closer together, with an almost hushed ambience despite the southern light.

Staircases: a graphic and photogenic backdrop

Stairs in Menton are a real asset when you want to get away from a session that's too smooth or too uniform. They immediately give you something more structured, more visual, with strong lines and a more elaborate setting, without losing the naturalness of the session.

Here, they provided a very interesting contrast to the rest of the story. After the softness of the alleyways, they gave a more assertive, almost cinematic feel. I really like this kind of transition in a gallery, because it tells more than just a single story. It feels like a real walk, with several breaths.

It's also the kind of place that works very well as a couple, with photos where you feel both the closeness and the setting. A hand in the hair, one forehead against the other, a simple embrace, a look. The staircases enhance this in a very elegant way.

The harbour, the beach and the seaside to end on a high note

When the session extends to the port and the seaside, the atmosphere becomes even different. The space opens up, the images breathe a little more, and we rediscover that Mediterranean light that does so much for the final rendering.

I love this moment, because it often brings something freer. Gestures become more spontaneous, walking on the beach or rocks creates natural movement, and the session takes on a lighter tone. For a pregnancy session, it's very beautiful, because you can go from more posed images in the old town to more aerial, lively photos by the water.

The harbor also works well for couples who like a more sober, open setting, with a feeling of calm. As for the beach, it brings that immediate softness that you quickly feel in the photos: bare feet, the sea, the pebbles, the wind, the more delicate light.

Why I recommend 1h30 or 2h for this type of session

This is really the most important point if you like this style of reporting.

When a pregnancy session in Menton includes several settings such as the old town, the stairways, the harbor and the seaside, an hour is generally too short. Of course, you can do some pretty things in an hour, but as soon as you want a rich, varied and natural gallery, it quickly becomes frustrating. We hurry more, we enjoy less, and we sometimes leave out certain places that would have brought a lot to the session.

Conversely, 1h30 or 2h allow you to experience the session differently. You can walk at a leisurely pace, change atmosphere without hurrying, take breaks, let moments breathe, vary shots, settings and energies. It really changes everything, especially for a mother-to-be.

I always prefer to recommend a more comfortable format rather than a too-short session that you try to “fit” into a tight schedule. That extra time isn't just for taking more photos. Above all, it makes the session smoother, more pleasant and much more beautiful in the end.

A simple and natural pregnancy session for couples

What I like to photograph most of all in a couple's pregnancy session is not complicated poses. It's the simple gestures. A hand on the belly. A glance. A walk together. A smile. A moment when you almost forget the camera.

On this session, there was just this beautiful simplicity. You could feel that they were together, moving towards something, enjoying the moment. That's what moves me most about this type of reportage. The scenery is important, of course, but it never takes over what's going on between them.

And that's why a longer format is so valuable. It gives things time to become more natural. You don't jump from one pose to another. You really live the session.

I really like sessions that tell the story of several facets of a place, because they make for a livelier, more personal gallery. You don't stick to a single setting, a single rhythm, a single mood. There are more nuances, more breathing space.

For a pregnancy session, this is particularly interesting. You can have very tender, intimate photos in the back alleys, then stronger images on the stairs, then a more open, lighter atmosphere at the seaside. The result is something more complete, more real, and also more visually flattering.

Menton lends itself wonderfully to this. It's a town that allows you to create contrast without breaking the unity of the session. You can always feel the same town, the same light, the same spirit, but the images never repeat themselves.

An extract from this pregnancy photo session in Menton

If you like Menton for its variety, this formula is ideal.

Not every pregnancy session in Menton has to be like this one. Some clients prefer a single area, a softer, simpler, shorter atmosphere. And that's fine too.

But if you like the idea of a richer, more varied session, with several settings in the same gallery, then this formula is undoubtedly the most beautiful. The old town, the staircases, the harbor, the beach and the seaside together create something very complete, very photogenic and profoundly Mediterranean.

It's also what makes it possible to have photos that really evolve over the course of the session, with different outfits, different lighting, different sensations, while remaining within the same story.
